Chilliwack Apartment Blazes
Chilliwack has seen several apartment fires recently. A major July 2025 blaze destroyed a Wellington Avenue building. May 2025 saw two fires at a Mary Street seniors' building.
Chilliwack has experienced a series of significant apartment fires recently. A major blaze on July 16, 2025, engulfed a mixed-use building on Wellington Avenue, with thick smoke pouring from second-floor apartments. All six Chilliwack fire halls responded to the suspicious fire, which destroyed multiple businesses and heavily damaged residential units, though no injuries were reported. This was the second fire in that block within a week.
Earlier, in May 2025, two fires within four days struck a seniors' apartment building on Mary Street. One fire on May 6 originated on the sixth floor, and another on May 3 on the ninth floor. While two residents were treated for smoke inhalation, prompt firefighter action limited damage to the respective floors.
In April 2025, a downtown apartment on Corbould Street was extensively damaged by a fire that rapidly spread through the attic, displacing all residents, though thankfully, no injuries occurred. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges and risks associated with apartment fires in Chilliwack, with fire departments consistently emphasizing the importance of working smoke alarms.
